New Teacher

We would like to welcome back Mrs. Karen Caldwell. She has returned to our school to teach the 4-6 grade class. She teaches in the mornings and we are greatful to have her back with us. She is one of the original founders of Heritage Foundation School.

Science Fair

The science fair will be held February 10th. All students who want to participate are welcome. Along with their project, they need to submitt a poster. There will be a chance for parents to come and view the projects from 6-7 p.m. that evening.

There will also be a book fair at that time with the Usborne books. The book fair is open February 7th through the 10th from 2:30 to 4:00. It will also be open during the evening of the 10th.

The preschool had a great month! It is fun to watch the children so anxiously engaged in their works. In their language groups they have been working on the sounds “o,” ”g”, and “f” this month. The first week the children cooked their own griddle cakes for the “g” sound and last week we traced their feet and made funny feet for the “f” sound. The sounds they have learned this year are: a, c, d, f, g, h, l, m, n, o, p, s and t. They have also been sending home mystery bags.

December 22^nd they enjoyed their Christmas dinner with soup and breadsticks. They had works for the children to help prepare the meal. They chopped the carrots, celery, and potatoes for the soup and they also rolled out their own breadsticks.They have enjoyed learning about the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ this month and when they return from the Christmas break they will be learning about Africa.

"O" is for OMELET!

Last week, the pre-school had"O is for Omelet" day! The kids got to help make their very own omelets at school. I think these pictures speak for themselves......

It's Pre-School Time!

We have such a wonderful pre-school program here at Heritage Foundation School! We teach our young children using the Montessori Method. This method uses a hands on learning environment where the children are given opportunities to learn from the many works that they are introduced to. They are given a presentation of each work in a group,or on an individual basis and then they are allowed to do that work by themselves. This helps to builds their self confidence, fine and large motor skills, eye hand coordination – it also prepares them for reading, writing plus many other life and social skills.

In "Practical life" learning at pre-school, the kids are learning about water transfer, scooping sand through a funnel into animal shaped bottles. How to set a table, how to sew on a button, cutting yarn, slicing bread and sharing with others (grace and courtesy). Washing and slicing an apple and sharing with others.

Here are some of the Art projects the children have been working on:
Play dough, using the shape of a triangle to sponge paint a Christmas tree, and a circle to sponge paint a Christmas wreath.
Color wheel: red, yellow and blue food dye to mix and make the colors of the rainbow. Stringing colorful beads onto pipe cleaners for bracelets.

Sewing Buttons: The children are learning how to use a needle and yarn to sew a large button on to fabric!

Each day the students gather for line time. We sing, have prayer and repeat the pledge of allegiance. This is also a time that the teachers can do a group presentation. This week Miss Amanda brought her harp, talked about it and played silent night on it for us. She then allowed it to be a work for the day and the children had a chance to play it. We also had a flannel board story of the baby Jesus and that will be a work for the remainder of the month. We did special birthday celebration for Thomas yesterday. We also got out some of our percussion instruments and played them as we sang Jingle Bells. On Thursday Miss Amanda is bringing her guitar to play and for us to sing along.

Each day before break everyone has a service that they do for the class room.
Some of the are:
Vacuuming, dusting, spraying and wiping tables, cleaning the water mats, moping the floor, washing and drying the dishes, watering the plants, wiping and putting the chairs in place, cleaning the door knobs and sink. The children really seem to love this time of day. Then they get to go outside. Each day they have a snack of which they serve themselves and clean up after they are finished.
